Volkswagen is a name that India has known all too well for decades; the credit for this goes to the many iconic Beetles and Kombi buses that are part of many a classic car collector's garage and never fail to put a smile on the faces of other road users.

Now, to celebrate these gorgeous classics, the Volks India group of Goa – the biggest classic VW club in the country – and Autocar India have teamed up to organise the first-ever VolksWeekend meet that will see classic VWs from all across India assemble in Goa for a memorable drive. Every kind of air-cooled VW will be part of the drive, and there also be some modern classics such as the Golf 1600 and the Scirocco.

Goa's love affair with VWs started when Dr Robert Hepp, a German national, arrived in Goa after World War II and imported a Volkswagen Beetle in 1956. Soon after that, he opened a dealership in Panaji and the brand, especially the Beetle, proved to be a hit with Goans.

The German brand became a bestseller in the state, and close to 1,000 VWs were sold. A majority of those were the Beetle and Type 2 van, along with some Karmann Ghias, Sciroccos and Golfs, quite a few of which will be part of the VolksWeekend drive that’ll take place on November 3-4. Entries from India aside, there will even be a few participants from Nepal!

If you happen to be in Goa on November 3-4, keep your eyes peeled for this spectacular parade – and if not, you can always catch all the action on our website and social media channels.
