UM Motorcycles showcased and announced the prices of its most affordable Duty range, namely Duty S and Duty Ace, at this year’s Auto Expo. Initially, the company was all set to launch the Renegade Duty range in July, which later got pushed to October 2018. But now the company has delayed the launch due to concerns raised by existing UM customers.
According to recent reports, the two motorcycles will now be launched in India by February 2019. Sources close to the company have also confirmed that the reason behind this delay is that the the company is currently busy working on the engine and rectifying issues that existing customers have been facing with the other UM models on already on sale.
To be more specific, UM Renegade owners have been complaining about the build quality and reliability issues of the UM Motorcycles range which does raise concerns about the durability of UM products.
Also, the Duty Ace and Duty S showcased at the Expo weren’t equipped with ABS. However, since the two models will be launched closer to the ABS mandate, the Duty range too should get the said safety net. Now, whether UM equips the motorcycles with a dual-channel unit or single-channel one is still not clear.
The Duty S and Duty Ace are powered by an air-cooled, 223cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces 17PS of power at 8000rpm and 17Nm of torque at 5000rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed transmission.
As per the price announcement at the Auto Expo 2018, the new UM Renegade Duty S and Duty Ace cost Rs 1.10 lakh and Rs 1.29 lakh, respectively. However, with the addition of ABS, expect the prices to start from Rs 1.25 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will compete against the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 (Rs 95,923) and the Royal Enfield Classic 350 (Rs 1.39 lakh). All prices ex-showroom, Delhi.
