Base-spec versions of the simply didn't appeal as much to us folks at ZigWheels. While they were competitively priced and came with an acceptable level of kit, they skimped out a bit on safety tech. For instance, the Era version got a single driver's airbag, whereas ABS was skipped altogether.
Hyundai made small amends about five months ago when it equipped the mid-spec variant with anti-lock brakes with EBD. Now though, the manufacturer has decided to go all in, and offer all variants with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. This is in light of the new crash test safety norms that kick in next year.

With the aforementioned safety tech offered as standard, the Grand i10 stands shoulder to shoulder with rivals such as the. This also (thankfully) means that those on a budget need not miss out on safety tech anymore. Coming to the prices, we didn't spot an increase, in the variants that now get additional equipment. We'll update this article if Hyundai chooses to update prices later on. For reference, prices for the base-spec Era version start at Rs 4.74 lakh for the petrol, and Rs 5.90 lakh for the diesel. On the other hand, the top-spec Asta variant costs Rs 6.54 lakh and Rs 7.51 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom New Delhi).
Save for the added safety features, the Grand i10 remains unchanged. You continue to get the option of a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.2-litre diesel, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic is available only with the petrol motor, in the mid-spec Magna and Sportz variants.
