While Mahindra is scheduled to launch its new flagship SUV (codename Y400) in the coming weeks, images of the final product’s interior have leaked online. The image shows the Mahindra badge taking pride of place on the three-spoke steering wheel.
The dual-tone dashboard sports grey plastics on the top, wood trimmings near the angular AC vents and a brown lower section below. Also visible is quilted leather on the doors and seats. Mounted in the centre of the dashboard is a large 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display that will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and navigation as standard, and will double up as a display for the 360-degree camera. The instrument cluster features a 7.0-inch digital screen, flanked by a speedometer and tachometer.
The spied image also shows the gear lever of the 7-speed automatic gearbox that can be specced to send power to just the rear wheels or to all-four wheels depending on the variant. The SUV will be powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that produces 187hp and 420Nm of torque.
While Mahindra did delay the launch of its new flagship SUV, it is still expected to launch in the run up to Diwali, before the end of October 2018. When it arrives, the production-spec Y400 will rival the Toyota Fortuner, the Isuzu MU-X and the Ford Endeavour, though at a price point that undercuts its competition. Thanks to a significant degree of localisation, expect ex-showroom prices to start at Rs 22 lakh.
