For some reason, if you thought the Ducati Panigale V4S wasn't already bonkers enough, the Bologna-bikemaker has now pulled the wraps-off the absolutely mental V4-R. And yes, the 'R' here stands for race-spec. So, what's new here?
For starters, it won't be a mass-production bike. Ducati will be debuting this motorcycle at the next year's World Superbike Competition (WSBK). In order to participate, the bike maker has to homologate some amount of units. However, the legal road-going variant may shed a few features here. So, don't expect to see a lot of these running around the streets.

Another noteworthy change involves curbing the V4's engine capacity from 1,194cc to 998cc. This is done to comply with WSBK regulations. To make up for this, Ducati has used a bunch performance-enhancing modifications. Some of which includes new lightweight engine components, a dry clutch and Magnetti Marelli electronics. In addition to this, the bike now runs on forged magnesium Marchesini M9RS rims, while braking is provided by the same Brembo Stylema callipers

While the chassis remains similar to the stock bike, Ducati has made some serious modifications to the rear sub-frame. It is now much shorter and sheds all the unnecessary elements. Changes have been made to the fairing as well as it now inclines forward and features some extra cutouts for improved aerodynamic prowess and better heat dissipation. Ducati has employed aerofoil appendages here, which are developed for the MotoGP prototypes. Especially made from carbon-fibre, they help in increasing the stability of the ride. The weight is also now down by 2kgs at 193kg, as compared to the already light-weight V4S. And yes, it gets winglets too!
As mentioned earlier, the Ducati V4 R will not be a mass market bike like the V4 and the V4S. Hence, a hefty premium over the standard model is expected here. Will it come to India? We hope so!
