  • Is based on the new CLAR platform that also underpins the 5- and 7-Series.
  • 76mm longer, 37mm wider with a 41mm longer wheelbase than before.
  • Yet, it is 55kg lighter.
  • Expected to launch in India by late 2019.

The 2019 has been spied testing in India. It was spotted doing the rounds for ARAI testing. Given that the 3 Series is one of the better selling models in the BMW lineup, the new one is hotly anticipated.

The G20 3 Series is based on BMW's new Cluster Architecture or CLAR platform and is significantly larger than the car it will replace. Compared to the old car, it is 76mm longer, 37mm wider and gets a 41mm longer wheelbase which should make it ideal for backseat drivers. In addition, the front and rear track have increased by 43mm and 21mm respectively. But despite the increase in size, the new 3 Series has actually shed 55kg of weight, thanks to the new platform.

As for the engines, internationally, the 3 Series will be made available with five engine options. But in India, we will likely get the 2.0-litre diesel in two states of tune - 150PS and 190PS -, along with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 184PS of max power. A 258PS (330i) could be added later. All engines will likely be mated to the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox only.
