The Skoda Kamiq, the Czech brand’s smallest SUV, has been seen nearly undisguised ahead of its world premier at the upcoming Geneva motor show, which is slated to take place at the beginning of next month.

The five-seat Skoda Kamiq SUV shares its underpinnings with the new Volkswagen T-Cross that made its debut last year. For those who don’t know, the Skoda Kamiq seen here is the production version of the Skoda Vision X concept SUV. The Euro-spec Kamiq will be shown at Geneva first, and will be sold in mainstream markets like Europe and in some parts of Asia.

The Kamiq for Europe follows the styling language seen on the Vision X quite closely. The SUV gets a wide grille and a two-piece headlight unit – a trend seen in many new SUVs globally like the latest-gen Hyundai Santa Fe and the Tata Harrier sold in India. The upcoming Kia SP2i SUV and the Hyundai QXi are also likely to feature the same headlight layout.

Moving to the sides, the Kamiq features subtle character lines, with a decent-sized glasshouse. The model’s overall styling mimics the bigger and much expensive Kodiaq SUV, which is also sold in India.  At the back, the Kamiq gets wraparound tail-lamps with LED elements, which give the car a fresh look when viewed from the back.

India will get a mildly altered version of this SUV. Skoda will introduce its Creta-rival in our market sometime in 2020. This new SUV will be based on a modified version of VW’s MQB A0 platform, dubbed MQB A0 IN for the Indian market.  The Volkswagen Group recently announced its India 2.0 turnaround plan which will see the introduction of the Skoda SUV as its first model. A Volkswagen derivative will follow a little later, which will be followed by two sedans; all of which will be based on the same underpinnings.
