. Responsible for the brand's initial perception in the country, the MG Hector has a lot hanging on in its shoulders. While we can't give you a conclusive review of the much-anticipated SUV till we get a taste of it, here are 20 detailed images of the newest entrant.
There has been quite a buzz surrounding since its announcement last year as it marks the debut of the British brand in India. The SUV looks fresh and contemporary and thereby does justice to the hype surrounding it.
There is a lot going on with the design of the SUV, right from its imposing chrome-laden grille to the sleek LED headlamps and DRLs and the squared off wheel arches. The Hector, like many modern SUVs, employs a split headlamp design for a clean front face.
Chrome is one way to win the hearts of Indian customers and has trodden down that path with the Hector. The SUV features extensive use of chrome in the grille, lower bumper and the window line.
The SUV features imposing wheel arches with a tall stance and a unique kink right after the C-pillar, adding plenty of character. The shoulder line is also prominent and runs throughout the entire side profile. It is also boasts of the longest wheelbase in the segment as well.
The most futuristic looking part of the Hector has to be these sleek LED DRLs, which look absolutely gorgeous and striking even in the images.
Another cool fact is that the LED DRLs also doubles up as the turn indicators.
The lower bumper is where the design gets busy. It features an aluminum skid plate with the main set of projector headlamps and fog lamps on either side.
The Hector comes with 17-inch dual-tone machine finished alloys wrapped in 215/60 R17 rubber. The lower variants are expected to use a single-tone alloy wheel design instead.
The rear section of the SUV also carries contemporary elements and the kink seen after the C-pillar flows through the rear and connects with the rear windshield.
Coming to the rear section, the LED tail lamps carry a distinctive signature with a reflector band connecting the two tail lamps. The lower part houses an aluminium diffuser with exhaust cutouts, with the left one being the real deal while the right one is a fake outlet.
The Hector gets a segment-first connected car system. On the inside, the most striking bit is the massive vertically stacked 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports the iSMART connected car system. There's plenty of leather all over the cabin while the chunky looking steering wheel sports a host of buttons for various functions.
The iSMART system uses an in-car, Android-based tablet featuring 4G (5G-ready) connectivity and OTA (over the air) updates. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also supported and it also gets a Gaana and Accuweather premium account for free. The central floor, below the gear lever, also hosts the controls for the 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake and the auto start/stop function.
The instrument cluster features a digital MID flanked by an analogue speedometer and tachometer which sweeps in the opposite direction like Aston Martins of yesteryears.
The panoramic sunroof looks stunning and will definitely help lift the ambience inside the cabin, making it a special place to be in.
The rear seats seem to offer ample support, with enough space and legroom for three adults and a set of air vents to cool the second row.
The MG Hector has the biggest boot in its segment, standing at a whopping 587 litres For some perspective, the Tata Harrier has a boot space of 425 litres.The tailgate is also electrically operated and can be opened and closed via the iSMART interface as well.
The SUV flaunting the badge signifies its segment-first connected features. The iSMART system supports a host of functions in the SUV, including features like emergency calls, vehicle status, remote control for the sunroof, tailgate, door lock, and a whole lot more, which you can find out.
Pictured here is the 1.5-litre turbocharged unit which makes 143PS and 250Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual or DCT gearbox. The Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre engine makes a healthy 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The diesel is only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The SUV will also come with India's first 48V mild hybrid that employs a regenerative braking system as well. The hybrid setup is expected to be paired with the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Here is another Hector in a Starry Black shade in case you're bored of the red one. Alongside these two, it also expected to be available in three other shades, including white, silver and burgundy.
The Hector is expected to be available in four variants - Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. Expect the pricing of the SUV to be revealed alongside its official launch in June. Bookings will start from early June, with deliveries set to begin a few weeks after the official launch.
