Suzuki India has silently launched the 2019 Gixxer in India today for Rs 1.02 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), a premium of Rs 11,271 over the outgoing model. This makes it one of the most expensive 160cc motorcycles in our market. That said, it has undergone a complete design overhaul and has received a host of new features too. And if you’re planning to buy one, here are five things you must know about the new motorcycle.

Powering the 2019 Gixxer is a 155cc single-cylinder engine which churns out 14.1PS of power at 8,000rpm and 14Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The new Gixxer now makes 0.7PS lesser than before, but the torque output remains unchanged. However, it now comes equipped with fuel injection, which will help it in complying with the upcoming BS6 norms. The 2019 iteration is the first naked Gixxer to get fuel injection.

Just like its faired cousin, the naked Gixxer has also received a comprehensive design overhaul. It now gets a completely re-designed headlamp assembly, more muscular fuel tank, sharp tank extensions and a sleek looking tail section. Additionally, it also gets a split seat that’s 15mm higher than before, at 795mm, and a rear tyre hugger. Suzuki will offer the 2019 Gixxer in three different colours, two of them being dual-tone options - grey/black, blue/black and black.

A host of modern-day features

Feature-wise, the 2019 Gixxer will now come with all-LED head and tail lamp, along with a revised fully digital instrument cluster, which displays a tripmeter, odometer, fuel range indicator and more. This is actually the same unit seen on the recently launched 2019 Suzuki Gixxer SF.

While the suspension setup and the braking hardware has remained the same, the new motorcycle has seen some dimensional changes. For example, the 2019 model is now 15mm wider, 30mm shorter and 5mm taller than before. And as mentioned before, the saddle now sits 15mm higher while the wheelbase has also gone up by 5mm. The 2019 Suzuki Gixxer is also 4kg heavier than before, at 140kg.

Several dealers in both Pune and Delhi have confirmed that the new motorcycle can be booked for a token amount ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000. When it comes to deliveries, expect a timeline of a week to a month, depending on your city.
