Yamaha has piqued our interests with the new XSR 155. The neo-retro motorcycle based on the MT-15  broke covers last week in Thailand and it looks smashing to say the least. However, at the launch event, Yamaha had also brought three concept bikes based on the XSR 155 which are more delicious than the other. All three bikes adhere to the neo-retro theme but belong to very different genres.

Of the three, it is the cafe racer which looks absolutely stunning. Keeping the mechanical elements of the motorcycle unchanged, the XSR 155 cafe racer was seen sporting a half-fairing, a curvy fuel tank and a short rider’s seat with the tail light as well as indicators integrated into the rear cowl. Interestingly, the cafe racer’s chrome alloy rims come shod with slicks suggesting its clear racing intent. It should prove to be quite a hoot on a tight, twisty circuit.

Another custom that caught our eye is the flat tracker which comes with Kenny Roberts’ iconic yellow ‘Speed Block’ livery. This particular custom motorcycle is fitted with a tear-drop shaped fuel tank, flat motocross-esque seat, flat tracker style handlebars, heavy-duty spoke rims with flat-tracking tyres and a number plate instead of the headlight. The cast aluminium swingarm too has been replaced for what seems like a longer box-section unit. While we don’t know how potent it will be at kicking its back out, we would surely love to have a go on it.

The last custom that was showcased was a scrambler concept. While the bars do seem to be raised and the rear subframe similarly higher, the overall concept doesn’t quite hit home as much as the other two. It does come fitted with spoke rims and knobby tyres though.

Yamaha is unlikely to ever put any one of these customs into production. Meanwhile, we can only hope that Yamaha India brings the XSR 155 to our shores soon. Pretty please, Yamaha.
