  • Interiors of the facelifted Tiguan expected to remain the same.
  • The 2.0-litre TDI likely to be remained albeit upgraded to BS6-emission norms.
  • India launch expected by the end of 2020.

The has always been known for its subdued and no-nonsense design. In fact even after two and a half years since its Indian launch, the Tiguan feels fresh. And in a bid to keep it up to date, Volkswagen is working on a facelift for the premium SUV. Spied testing overseas, here's everything you can expect in the facelifted Tiguan.

Unfortunately, the updates are so subtle that it looks similar to the current model. But it isn't. For starters, the sportier 'R Line' variant has been spied on test. Changes include additional chrome detailing on the twin slat grille along with the 'R ' badge on it. Also seen here are the revised detailing in the LED headlamps assembly and aggressive looking bumpers. In profile you'll notice the sportier 10-spoke alloy wheels along with the addition of a chrome strip on the doors. At the back, changes are limited to a new chrome strip on the bumper.

Considering the minimal exterior changes, we expect very less changes on the inside. Expected changes include new trims and colour options while the upholstery might receive an overhaul as well.

We also expect the facelifted model to retain the current SUV's features like LED headlamps and tail lamps, panoramic sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, drive modes, terrain modes, powered driver's seat with memory function, coloured multi-info display and more.

Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, electronic stability program, hill descent control, hill hold and more.

Expect India to retain the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine for the Tiguan albeit upgraded to meet BS6-emission norms. The 2.0-litre TDI unit develops 143PS of power and 340Nm of torque. It comes mated with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive tech is also present if you intend to take the Tiguan off-road.

On the other hand, the sportier R-Line variant that has been spied is expected to get a 2.0-litre TSI unit. It could most likely develop more than 300PS and come with Volkswagen's 4MOTION tech for putting effective use of the power. While Volkswagen might not bring the R Line Tiguan to India, expect the facelifted model to hit roads by the end of 2020.

Reports also suggest that Volkswagen will launch the next-gen Tiguan by 2022. So watch out for this space.
