Not so long ago, at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Fast forward to the present and the carmaker has started testing the model in the United States. Here's what to expect from the second model in VW's new ID range of EVs.
The ID.4 Crossover is based on the ID Crozz concept that was revealed at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. Visually, it looks similar to the concept and comes with a sloping roofline. Based on the sneak preview at Frankfurt, we expect elements like the illuminated VW logo as well as the connected headlamps and tail lamps from the concept to make their way onto the production-spec model.

The interior of the ID.4 is yet to be revealed. But it could borrow some sleek interior design elements as well as high tech features from . This includes augmented reality (AR), a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and more.
Powertrain details for the upcoming ID.4 are still under wraps. But we expect Volkswagen to plonk the ID.3's rear mounted powertrain in the ID.4 as well. The ID.3's electric powertrain develops 204PS and 310Nm. Apart from that, reports also suggest that Volkswagen might plonk in a smaller 100PS electric powertrain at the front axle and this could take the combined output to 304PS. It'll also make the ID.4 a full-time AWD EV. Underpinning the ID.4 will be Volkswagen MEB (Modular Electrification Toolkit) platform that'll also be the foundation for a host of EVs from the VW Group.
The Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to be revealed early next year and could be launched by the end of the same year. Will the ID.4 make it to India considering Volkswagen's ambitious plans under its 'India 2.0' growth strategy? Well, there is no confirmation on that yet. But considering Hyundai has launched the and MG Motor planning to bring the e-ZS soon, the ID.4 could be a perfect rival to both the models.
