ZW-India-Supercars-2019

2019 has been an interesting year for car enthusiasts all over the world. Right here on our shores, we witnessed a handful of new cars, some of which turned out to be extremely successful. However, the party doesn't end with mainstream cars. 2019 also witnessed the debut of a handful of performance cars that offers tyre scorching thrills. This includes the new 911, the go-kart-like Mini JCW as well as the sexy Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder. So without further ado, let's have a look at the top performance cars launched in India.

The 2019 Porsche 911 has been criticised for looking similar to its predecessor. But everything else about the car has been well received. It comes with a brand new interior that features Porsche's latest design and technology. But the main point here is the 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six that develops 450PS and 530Nm. Power is channeled to the rear wheels via an 8-speed PDK transmission. Numbers? The 911 does 0-100kmph in 3.7 seconds and maxes out at 308kmph. Sweet, no? The 992 911 is priced from Rs 1.82 crore (ex-showroom India).

The Lamborghini Huracan EVO Spyder is basically the convertible variant of the Huracan EVO. It's the one to go for if you want to hear the glorious roar of the classic 5.2-litre V10 naturally aspirated engine It develops a massive 640PS of power and a whopping 600Nm of twist and channels power to all four wheels. This results in the EVO Spyder hitting 0-100kmph in 3.1 seconds before maxing out at 325kmph. Well worth the Rs 4.10 crore price tag, we'd say

Mini Coopers are known for their razor-sharp handling and one car that takes it up a notch is the JCW (John Cooper Works). It comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 231PS and 319Nm. It does the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.1 seconds and comes with a throaty exhaust note. But the JCW is not about outright power. It's about the handling, which can be termed as extremely agile, almost like a go-kart. You can read our first drive review . Prices for the Mini JCW start from Rs Rs 43.5 lakh (ex-showroom India).

The Porsche Cayenne is one fast SUV with a mighty V8 under the hood. The recently launched Cayenne Coupe is sleeker and in our eyes, sexier than the standard SUV. The Turbo variant, with its 4.0-litre V8 engine, develops a whopping 550PS and 700Nm and propels the SUV from 0-100kmph in 3.9 seconds. That's just 0.8 seconds slower than the Huracan EVO Spyder. But if you feel the 4.0-litre litre V8 powertrain is a bit of a stretch, Porsche offers the Cayenne Coupe with a smaller 3.0-litre V6 powertrain that develops an exciting 340PS and 450Nm and does the 0-100kmph run in 6 seconds dead. The Cayenne Coupe starts from Rs 1.31 crore and goes up to Rs 1.97 crore (all prices, ex-showroom India) for the Turbo variant.

These are the four performance cars that were launched on our shores in 2019. Yes, it's sad to see that manufacturers are not focussing on high-performance models for India. That said, we expect plenty of driver-centric cars to arrive in 2020. So stay tuned to ZigWheels.
