Tata Motors, through its partnership with Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (UGVCL), will deploy Tigor EVs in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. This is being done as a part of its tender with EESL. The first batch of Tata Tigor EVs was flagged-off today by the Minister of Energy, Saurabhbhai Patel and Mahesh Singh, MD, UGVCL, along with dignitaries from Tata Motors.
Speaking on the occasion, Shailesh Chandra, president, Electric Mobility Business and Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors said, “We are delighted to partner with the Uttar Gujarat Vij Company for introducing zero-emission vehicles in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. Tata Motors has always been at the forefront of developing sustainable and responsible mobility solutions for India; and this order is a testament of our commitment to bring EV solutions closer to our customers. We are determined to drive adoption of electric vehicles in the country, thereby supporting government’s Vision 2030.”
Tata Motors is playing a leading role in driving the adoption of electric mobility in India. The company is working closely with other Tata Group companies – including Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata AutoComp Systems, Tata Motors Finance, and Croma – to create an e-mobility ecosystem, Tata uniEVerse.
The automaker updated the Tigor EV late last year with a bigger battery (21.5kWh versus the earlier 16.2kWh), imparting it better mileage on a single charge (213km, compared to the earlier 142km). While the electric sedan initially could only be purchased for commercial use before, this update makes it available to private buyers as well. Expanding its EV portfolio, Tata recently launched the Nexon EV; and also unveiled the Altroz EV in India at the Auto Expo.
