The Honda Activa and the TVS Jupiter have been the country’s most popular 110cc scooters consistently over the years. Now, the specifications for the TVS Jupiter BS6 are finally out. Obviously, a specification comparison against its arch-nemesis, the Honda Activa 6G is in place, so let’s see where they stand on paper:

The Activa 6G seems to have the upper hand, but only by a small margin. TVS’ fuel injection technology promises to offer 15 per cent more fuel efficiency in the Jupiter BS6 than the carburetted BS4-compliant engine. There’s also an Econometer which illuminates the Power or Eco light based on your riding style. But apart from these, there are no standout features, powertrain-wise.
On the other hand, the Honda Activa 6G features a silent starter and Tumble Flow technology for better air-fuel flow. To ensure the refinement is on point, it also comes with friction-reduction measures like offset cylinder, compact crankshaft and optimised piston. Honda also claims the BS6-compliant engine offers 10per cent more fuel efficiency than the BS4 counterpart.

The underpinnings in both the scooters are pretty similar with the exemption of the wheels. The larger 12-inch alloy wheels (on both ends) in the Jupiter should result in better ride quality compared to the Activa 6G’s 12-inch front and 10-inch rear unit. Both scooters do not come with a front disc brake even as an option. While it was never offered in any generation of the 110cc Activa, the BS4-compliant Jupiter comes with a 220mm front disc as a separate variant. One of the reasons why TVS hasn’t offered a front disc as an option could be to keep the premium that comes with BS6 upgradation under check.

The slightly longer wheelbase, larger rear wheel, extra weight will help keep the TVS Jupiter BS6 stay stable on the straights. The Honda Activa 6G is claimed to offer the best-in-class ground clearance, which will play a vital role in going over bad roads effortlessly. As far as low-speed manoeuvrability is concerned, the two scooters are likely to feel the same, theoretically as the seat height and kerb weight are similar.

For a premium of around Rs 2,400 Honda offers a slightly more powerful scooter and more importantly, it is packed with tangible features like ACG silent starter, engine kill switch and the likes.
TVS makes up for the lack of fancy features with practical ones like LED headlamp across all the variants (the Activa 6G gets it only under the DLX variant). It also offers a bigger 12-inch rear wheel which should ensure good ride quality. The Classic Edition features a windshield, chromed-out rear-view mirrors, premium seat and a cushioned backrest. More importantly, all the variants come with a large 21-litre underseat storage and an optional USB charger. Whereas The Activa 6G manages with a smaller 18-litre underseat storage. Honda doesn’t offer a USB charger even as an option.
