The ongoing battle against the coronavirus pandemic in India has resulted in businesses shutting operations amid the nationwide lockdown. In order to help those in need and provide assistance to those serving on the frontline, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced a fund scheme. The Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) was announced on March 28, three days after the lockdown was enforced.

At the time of writing, India has recorded over 21,000 cases nationwide. has provided a helping hand and donated Rs 7 crore to the aforementioned fund. In addition, HMIL has announced a series of initiatives including the distribution of essential protective gear, collaborations with manufacturers of protective gear, and significant donations.

Hyundai has also donated Rs 5 crore to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Relief Fund. It will hand over imported advanced diagnostic test kits worth Rs 4 crore to deal with the shortage. It is also focusing on the distribution of PPEs, masks, and safety kits in some of the worst-affected areas in Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Haryana. Besides, it will distribute dry ration to the impacted sections of society across Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

Many manufacturers such as are extending help by donating towards research and collaborative efforts with medical associations to produce protective gear and test kits. With Hyundai Motor India following suit, the fight against the lethal virus rages on even as medical researchers focus on finding a vaccine.
