Triumph Bonneville-rivalling Brixton Twin Confirmed For Production

Before they plagued the world with a fatal pandemic, the Chinese had a reputation for copying things. Case in point is Sino-European brand Brixton, which unveiled a concept version of its parallel-twin neo-retro at EICMA last year. The latest news is that this bike has now been confirmed for production.

Aimed squarely at the Triumph Bonneville range, the resemblance is uncanny. The classic round headlight and its mounting bracket look like they’ve been lifted straight from a Triumph spare parts catalogue. The tank cutouts, fork gaiters, silver engine fins, and even the shape of the engine side casings are all oddly similar to the Bonnie range. It doesn’t end there: the exhaust routing and bench-style seat also have shades of the British brand, while the tyres are identical to what most of the Bonneville lineup rolls on.

Hear Brixton and you might be fooled into thinking the company is British itself, but it’s actually owned by Austria’s KSR Group, which imports bikes from an array of Chinese manufacturers including CFMoto. As such, the new parallel-twin bike is expected to be built in China, but it has been created at KSR’s recently inaugurated design centre in Krups, Austria.

Aside from how it looks, not much else is known about the bike, but reports from China say the motor displaces 1,200cc putting it up against the T120, Speed Twin, and Scrambler 1200. Though the big gap under the rear fender, wire-spoke wheels and significant ground clearance seem to indicate off-road intentions, the street-oriented rubber and lack of crash protection tell us this model won’t be venturing too far off the beaten track.

Going by the brand’s history and considering how production-ready the concept bike looked last year, we can expect to see a final production form later this year or early next year, depending on how the COVID-19 scenario pans out.
