  • VW has started its India 2.0 assault with the Tiguan Allspace and T-ROC.
  • The first shipment of the VW T-ROC has been sold out.
  • VW has sold 50 per cent of the Tiguan Allspace's first shipment.
  • Local manufacturing for both models are being considered for more volumes and competitive pricing.

T-ROC midsize SUV. Both SUVs are offered as completely built units (CBU) under the government's revised norms which allow car manufacturers to import 2,500 cars without homologation. If Volkswagen considers local manufacturing for both models, it could further achieve competitive pricing and an increase in volumes.

Volkswagen India will utilise this particular norm to closely monitor sales of both models and will make a decision on whether or not the vehicles will be locally manufactured with imported components.

Going by reports, things seem to be positive for the German carmaker. The and Tiguan Allspace have performed impressively in the Indian market despite being petrol-only models. VW has sold 50 per cent of the Tiguan Allspace. The T-ROC, on the other hand, has been completely sold out.

Coming back to the T-ROC, it's VW's only offering in the premium midsize SUV segment. Offered in a single variant, it is powered by a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine which features active cylinder management technology. Drive is provided to the front wheels by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The T-ROC locks horns with the Jeep Compass.

Meanwhile, the Tiguan Allspace is VW's more premium 7-seater SUV. It's also offered in one single variant, priced from Rs 33.12 lakh (ex-showroom).
