  • The new generation NMax 155 was first introduced in Indonesia in December last year.
  • It came with traction control and smartphone connectivity features.
  • The scooter gets the same engine as the R15 v3 BS6.

The wait for the Yamaha NMax 155 entering the Indian market grows longer and longer. The plans for it to be introduced seemed right on track as the updated NMax 155 was launched in Indonesia late-last year. Now, the scooter has also been launched in Thailand, a market where Yamaha enjoys tremendous success. However, a couple of features are missing on the scooter and we believe this just might be the case on the India-spec version as well.

We were pleasantly surprised to know that Yamaha had kitted the NMax 155 with traction control and Y Connect, Yamaha’s smartphone connectivity system (much like TVS’s SmartXonnect on the NTorq 125). The former feature is unheard of in this category of scooters. Still, in the grand scheme of things, you do not really need traction control to rein in 15.36PS and 13.9Nm of torque, produced from the 155cc VVA-equipped motor. This is the same motor found on the R15 v3 BS6, albeit in a different state of tune.

Both features have been given a miss for the Thai market in order to save costs. The India-spec version could very well give the traction control a miss, but we do hope the connectivity feature remains. The plans of its introduction into our market have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a possible launch only after the monsoons.
