- The Aprilia SXR 160 was unveiled at Auto Expo 2020.
- It was scheduled to be launched in mid-2020.
- Expect it to go on sale by the end of September.
Aprilia gave us enthusiasts a pleasant surprise when it unveiled the all-new, India-specific SXR 160 maxi-styled scooter at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The scooter was initially scheduled to be launched in mid-2020 but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been delayed.
Aprilia wants to maintain the development time for the SXR 160 so that the end product is well-engineered. This along with the pandemic has resulted in a delay of 1.5 months. It is now expected to be launched either by the end of September or early October.
Expect deliveries to commence soon after the launch. It will be Aprilia’s most expensive scooter in India as it is likely to be priced around Rs 15,000 more than the Aprilia SR160 BS6, which retails at Rs 1.03 lakh (ex-showroom Hyderabad).
The scooter is loaded with features like a full-LCD instrument cluster with mileage indicator and a split storage compartment on the apron with an integrated USB charging port. It even gets optional smartphone connectivity and mobile dock too. The lighting system is all-LED.
Powering the scooter is the Aprilia SR160 BS6’s motor. This engine produces 11PS at 7600rpm and 11.6Nm at 6000rpm. Expect the SXR 160 to be offered in the same state of tune. But if we’re lucky, Aprilia might just tweak it to suit the character of the scooter. To know more about the SXR 160, head here.
There are no natural rivals to the Aprilia SXR 160. However, Suzuki offers a more affordable maxi-styled scooter in the form of the Burgman Street BS6.
