Evoke 6061 Electric Cruiser Bike Launched

If your only excuse for not buying an electric motorcycle is the lack of range, then you’re all out of excuses now, pal. Beijing-based Evoke Motorcycles has rolled out the 6061: an electric cruiser powered by a potent motor fed by a massive battery pack backed up by ludicrous fast-charging capabilities.

“Electric bikes are slow and boring!”

Here are the numbers: the 6061’s 120kW (163PS) motor allows it to get up to a top speed of 230kmph. Not only does this make it quicker than the Harley-Davidson Livewire, but it also beats out the much sportier Zero SR/F. In fact, it’s just short of the Energica Ego, which is what the Grand Prix MotoE race bikes are based on.

“Pfft I won’t even make it to work and back on a single charge”

 With this sort of performance, you might think that it’s only good for a couple hundred kilometres before you need to juice it up, but thanks to an elephantine, class-leading 24.8kWh battery pack, the Evoke will do 470km in the city or 265km on the highway (claimed). Once again, these figures allow the 6061 to trump its most obvious rival, the H-D Livewire.

Wrong again. DC fast-charging capabilities mean that a quick 15-minute pit-stop will charge the pack from 0 to 80 percent using the 125kW fast charger. This works out to roughly 25km per minute of charging. On days when you can’t find a level 3 fast charger, though, you’re in for a much longer wait as the standard 1.8kW AC charger fills ‘er up.

“With all that tech, it must cost a fortune”

Well, yes and no. The $24,995 (Rs 18.75 lakh) price tag is no joke. It places it a couple thousand dollars higher than something like the Ducati Diavel 1260S, a comparable petrol-engined power cruiser. But more importantly, it’s a good $5,000 (Rs 3.75 lakh) more affordable than the Livewire while seemingly having it beat in all areas, at least on paper.
