Tata Motors has issued a recall for select variants of the diesel Tiago and the Zest AMT. The carmaker has said that the recall is to rectify a potential emissions issue with the cars in question. The rectification will be free of cost for the affected models.
- Tata Zest AMTs with chassis numbers MAT624201FLD13319 to MAT624201GLC06228 and MAT624027GPD11615 to MAT624201GPE15201 affected.
- Recall also covers diesel Tiagos with chassis numbers ranging from MAT626184GKF16560 to MAT626141HKB10162.

Tata has listed the chassis number range of the cars that have been affected by the recall. The recalled Zest cars are of chassis numbers MAT624201FLD13319 to MAT624201GLC06228 and MAT624027GPD11615 to MAT624201GPE15201. The chassis numbers of the recalled Tiagos are MAT626184GKF16560 to MAT626141HKB10162. Customers of these cars can either visit their nearest dealerships or call 1800-209-7979 for corrective action.
In an official communication, Tata Motors says, ‘Being a customer-centric organisation and as a responsible corporate citizen, Tata Motors strives to ensure that its vehicles are emission compliant.’
What are the engines affected?
In a brief recap, Tata discontinued the Zest when the BS6 emission norms rolled in. The diesel Tiago was dropped from the line-up with the launch of the petrol-only Tiago facelift in January. The diesel Tiago made use of the brand’s in-house 70hp, 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel engine which it shared with the Tigor compact sedan.
This isn’t the first time that Tata recalled its 1.05-litre diesel mill owing to potential emission issues. The diesel Tigor also faced a recall back in 2018 over a similar issue.
The Zest, on the other hand, only got an AMT gearbox option with its diesel engine – the popular Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine – in its more powerful 90hp state of tune. The 1.3 diesel was also available in a lower, 75hp state of tune.
