The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe has been launched at a price of Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India, except Kerala). The second generation of the GLE Coupe, the GLE 53 Coupe, is essentially the replacement for the first-gen GLE 43 Coupe that was on sale in India. This is the first ‘53’ badged model to launch in India.

  • Powered by a mild-hybrid 435hp, 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, in-line-six petrol engine
  • 48V mild-hybrid system offers up to 22hp and 250Nm when required

What’s new in the second-gen Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe?

The all-new GLE Coupe is larger than its predecessor and even has a 20mm longer wheelbase. As with the first-gen coupe, the new GLE Coupe shares some common design elements with the standard GLE. Differences arise from the B-pillar onwards, with a flowing, coupe-like roofline and distinctive rear end with an integrated spoiler. This AMG model, furthermore, gets sportier design details such as the vertical-slat Panamerica grille, 21-inch alloy wheels, turbo badging on the front fenders, and an AMG exhaust.

There are eight colour options to choose from – Brilliant Blue, Cavansite Blue, Emerald Green, Hyacinth Red, Mojave Silver, Obsidian Black, Polar White and Selenite Grey.

Inside, the dashboard is the same as the standard GLE and gets dual 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and instrument cluster, with both running on Merc's latest MBUX system. As with the exterior, the GLE 53 Coupe’s cabin gets some AMG-specific touches as well, such as the AMG flat-bottom steering, AMG front seats and stainless-steel pedals, to name a few. Buyers get two upholstery options to personalise the cabin with. Mercedes claims 650 litres of boot space that can expand to 1,800 litres with the rear seats folded.

What is under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe?

Power comes from a 435hp, 3.0-litre, in-line, six-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine. The unit is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system (Mercedes calls it EQ Boost) that adds up to 22hp and 250Nm of torque under hard acceleration. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox and Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

Mercedes claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 5.3sec, while the top speed is limited to 250kph.

The GLE 53 Coupe also features some AMG-specific upgrades, including a sportier air suspension setup, adaptive dampers and uprated brakes to handle the additional power.

What equipment does the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe get?

There is plenty of kit on offer, including a head-up display, four-zone climate control, a 13-speaker Burmester sound system, ventilated front seats with four-way lumbar support, a panoramic sunroof and powered tailgate. The AMG performance exhaust system allows the driver to choose how much sound is produced. The GLE 53 Coupe also comes with Merc's Active Ride Control system, which can reduce body roll during cornering and improve ride when required. Nine airbags, a blind spot monitor and adaptive LED headlights are also standard.

What are the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe’s rivals?

The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe rivals the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, the Audi Q8 and the BMW X6.
