has set the first ever model of the second-gen Thar up for auction and the current highest bidder is at Rs 88.5 lakh The bidding process, which will end on September 29, has garnered a lot of interest and might just cross the Rs 1 crore mark.

The model, dubbed the Thar 1, will have special badging and proceeds from the auction will be donated to efforts against the ongoing pandemic. It will get Thar 1 badging and will also include the owner's initials. The number '1' will be embossed on the seats and dashboard as well.

Prices for the new Thar will be announced on October 2, but the amount people that are willing to shell out for the Thar 1 is just preposterous. But then again, who wouldn't want a personalised, top-spec Thar LX with their initials stamped on it. From the looks of it, people are ready to go to great lengths.

Aside from the personalisation, the Thar 1 will get all the goodies from the LX trim. This consists of a choice of two powertrains and six different colour options to choose from. The engines on offer are a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 150PS 2.0-litre petrol unit. While both engines get an automatic gearbox as standard, only the diesel unit gets the option of a manual transmission.

Set to launch on October 2, the next-gen Thar is aiming to be more than just a barebones off-road SUV, providing the practicality and comfort of a family SUV. It is expected to be priced from Rs 9.75 lakh onwards and will face competition from the likes of the upcoming Maruti .
