The most talked about 250cc Kawasaki at the moment is undoubtedly the inline-four powered Ninja ZX-25R, but Team Green has some other interesting quarter-litre motorcycles too. One such example is the parallel-twin Z250, which has just been updated for the 2021 model year. Well, we say update, but it’s really just a wardrobe makeover. Kawasaki has thrown in two new colour schemes for next year, and that’s about it.

The colours in question are called, wait for it, ‘Pearl Night Shade Teal x Metallic Flat Spark Black’ and ‘Candy Cardinal Red x Metallic Flat Spark Black’. Though not quite what you’d expect from Kawasaki, these shades are tastefully done and give the Z250 a rather elegant and mature look. The teal especially is an excellent choice and definitely our pick of the bunch.

The rest of the bike remains unchanged, so you still get a 248cc parallel-twin engine producing a rather healthy 37PS and 22.5Nm. If you come across one, there’s a good chance you could mistake it for something much larger because not only is it styled like the Z650 (which we rode recently and you can check out here), but it also gets a chunky 41mm front fork and meaty 110 and 140-section tyres.

The good news is that in Japan, the Z250’s price has remained the same, at 610,500 yen (Rs 4.3 lakh), despite the update. The bad news is we don’t expect Kawasaki to bring this bike to India anytime soon. However, Kawasaki has also updated the Z400 alongside the Z250, and if the engine now complies with Euro 5 emission norms (which we're not sure about yet), Kawasaki could bring that bike to our shores soon.
