The all-new Hyundai i20 has been launched in India, with prices ranging from Rs 6.80 lakh to Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). The 2020 Hyundai i20 is being offered in four trim levels, with three engine and five gearbox options. Now in its third-generation, the new i20 continues to rival other premium hatchbacks like the Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Volkswagen Polo. As is mandated by the government, all cars here feature dual airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors. However, the top-spec i20 Asta (O) gets the added benefit of four more airbags. The Hyundai is also the only model here to get electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
A rear parking camera is on offer with all competitors, barring the Volkswagen while ISFOX child-seat mounts are available with all, except the Jazz and the Polo.
While the new i20 is yet to be crash tested, the Tata Altroz has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by the Global NCAP and the Volkswagen Polo has received a 4-star safety rating.

The new Hyundai i20 has the most equipment on offer, inside and out. On the exterior, it gets LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, auto headlamps and wipers, an electric sunroof and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The Altroz, Jazz, Baleno and Glanza are pretty evenly matched in terms of this comparison. The Altroz gets auto wipers which the others miss out on, the Jazz gets a sunroof and the Baleno and Glanza get LED headlamps which aren’t available with the Altroz.
Being the oldest in the comparison, the Volkswagen Polo trials behind here, missing out on LED headlamps with LED DRLs, automatic headlamps and a sunroof. However, it does get rain-sensing wipers and sporty, 16-inch alloys.

On the inside, all competitors feature a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, automatic climate control and rear AC vents.
Being the newest in the group, the new Hyundai i20 packs the most features in this comparison. The i20 boasts of the largest touchscreen here, at 10-25-inches, a 7-speaker Bose audio system and it also comes with Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology. Features that are unique to the i20 in this comparison include leatherette seat upholstery, a full-digital instrument cluster and wireless charging.
The Tata Altroz comes closest to the i20 here, featuring a part-digital instrument cluster and ambient lighting but misses out on leatherette upholstery and wireless charging. The updated Jazz too, is well equipped, with the top-spec CVT version getting cruise control among other things.
The Baleno and Glanza’s equipment list is at par for the course . They don’t miss out on any key features but, they lack some of the equipment that’s on offer with the others. The Volkswagen Polo gets the smallest screen here, at 6.5-inches, but it does feature cruise control and connected car tech which is not available with the Baleno and Glanza.

But what you do get for your money is the latest, most up-to-date product in the segment along with several segment-unique features, as mentioned above. Despite its high price then, the new i20 remains a compelling package that is sure to attract many buyers in the premium hatchback segment.
