Ladies and gentlemen here’s your first look at the Ducati Multistrada V4 in all its glory. It’s been thoroughly revamped for 2020 which means it gets a brand new motor with record maintenance intervals, looks better and features improved ergos and electronics. It’s the first bike to be unveiled through Ducati World Première web series. There’s a lot more to follow.
Coming back to the bike. The biggest change by far is the new 1158cc V4 Granturismo motor that not only has a smaller footprint compared to the previous V-twin engine, but is also a whole 1.2kg lighter than before. While it doesn’t surpass the 200PS barrier it’s been tuned to deliver more torque than the Streetfighter V4 at lower revs -- 170PS at 10,500rpm and 125Nm at 8750rpm. Read more about the engine here.
Its electronic package includes measures for safety, comfort, performance, and connectivity. So you have a 6-axis IMU that manages cornering ABS, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Vehicle Hold Control (VHC). The system also tweaks the semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) to auto level itself when it detects extra load. If that's not enough, you could opt for Ducati’s radar-based cruise control which comes with one of the top-spec trims.
The Multistrada V4 uses an aluminium monocoque frame, a 19-inch front wheel and double-sided swingarm that can accommodate both spoke or alloy wheels. The wheelbase is now shorter -- 1,567mm as opposed to 1592mm. It also has more room to play with a higher ground clearance of 220mm. Ducati’s semi-active Skyhook Suspension (DSS) with its Auto Leveling function handles suspension duties. The entire package weighs in at 215kg (dry) which is 10kg lighter than the Multistrada 1260 Enduro.
In terms of design, the Multistrada V4 is sleeker and more compact than before. The muscular fuel tank can actually accommodate 22-litres of fuel, while its slim tail section has been specifically designed to offer an optimal riding position even when standing in off-road sections. There are a series of ducts which channel air towards the engine for better thermal management. The Multistrada V4 has the ability to deactivate the rear cylinders when the bike is idling.
Other notable features include a full-colour TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, map navigator that can be viewed on the dashboard and to the cornering lights. You can even store or charge your phone in a nifty pocket designed on the top of the tank.
The Multistrada V4 is available in many configuration possibilities to meet the needs of the most diverse customers. The standard V4 model is available in red. The mid-trim is available two shades -- Aviator Grey and red. Ducati gives you the option to buy the Multistrada V4 S with both alloy wheels and spoked wheels.
The brand even has a range of configurations that can be ordered directly from the factory (Essential, Travel, Radar, Performance, Full). All of these configuration options can be viewed on Ducati's website. The Multistrada V4 is available in many configuration possibilities to meet the needs of the most diverse customers.
