The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the USA has issued a recall for the 2019 Indian Scout, Scout Bobber and Scout Sixty motorcycles. Models produced between March 1, 2018, and October 31, 2018 are susceptible to potential ABS issues, and the recall report states that 2,072 bikes are likely to be affected.
According to the report, the Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS) on these bikes "were manufactured with a brake system fluid fill process that may not have met quality standards”. The effect of this is the formation of air bubbles in the brake fluid, which can degrade brake performance. The report also states that an indication of this issue is that the “force required to activate the brake lever may decrease resulting in a lever that feels soft to the user.”
We’re still awaiting information on whether the Indian Scout models in India are affected by the issue.
