There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming Tata Altroz since it’s unveil at the 2018 Auto Expo as the 45X concept hatchback. It has since been showcased at the 2019 Geneva motor show in near production form. The final car production has now been spotted sans camouflage for the very first time in India. The car in question seems to have been clicked at a Tata Motors’ production facility.
The sole pic of the production-spec Tata Altroz suggests that its design will be true to the Geneva show car’s. The only visible change are a different design for the alloy wheels. Further, the production-spec cars wheels seem to be finished a mono-tone and don’t have the diamond cut look of the car displayed at Geneva. What’s also hard to tell is whether the production car sports the 17-inch rims like the show car. It is likely that the car for sale will come with smaller 16-inch rims.
The Altroz will be Tata’s first offering in the premium hatchback segment and will be built on the carmaker’s all-new ALFA platform. On offer will be three engine options including an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Tiago hatchback, which will be fitted with a balancer shaft to improve NVH levels. The other options include the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon which will be tuned down to produce 102hp and 140Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Nexon will also be offered though it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
When launched by August 2019, the Tata Altroz will compete with likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz and buzz is that it will be competitively priced. Expect Tata Altroz prices to be in the region of Rs 5-8 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom).
