  • The 2019 Diavel is powered by a 1,262cc engine.
  • It is 5kg heavier than its predecessor.
  • The top-end variant, the Diavel 1260S, gets fully adjustable Ohlins suspension at both ends.

Italian bike maker Ducati is all set to launch the second-generation Diavel 1260 in India in August. First unveiled at the 2018 EICMA, the 2019 iteration has received a host of updates in the form of a bigger engine and updated electronics.

Instead of the 1,198cc engine that powered the old-gen Diavel, the 2019 model gets a larger 1,262cc DVT L-twin motor. This engine belts out 159PS and 128.8Nm of torque, which is 15PS and 5Nm more than its predecessor. Now, though, the DCT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) system make sure that 100Nm of torque is available from 3500rpm onwards. The standard 1260 features a 50mm fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, both of which are adjustable. The Diavel 1260 S, on the other hand, is equipped with Ohlins fully adjustable 48mm fork up front and a fully adjustable shock absorber at the rear.

In terms of rider aids, Ducati’s power cruiser gets all the bells and whistles that the bike maker has to offer. You get different ride modes (Sport, Touring and Urban), eight levels of Ducati Traction Control, eight levels of Ducati Wheelie Control and three levels of cornering ABS and a new 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). Now, how do these electronic nannies work in urban conditions? Well, we have ridden the new Ducati Diavel 1260 S and here’s what we think.

How much do you have to shell out for this insane Italian power cruiser? Well, Ducati hasn’t revealed the price yet, but we expect the standard Diavel 1260 to retail at Rs 16 lakh and the 1260 S at Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom), making it around Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh more expensive than the previous model.
