The CNG variants cost roughly around Rs 71,000 more than the standard petrol variant while the Tour M carries a premium of Rs 66,000.

The CNG comes with the standard model's 1.5-litre petrol unit albeit in a detuned state of tune. While the petrol Ertiga churns out 105PS and 138Nm, the CNG models churn out 92PS and 122Nm. They can be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. Fuel efficiency figures stand at a claimed 26.2 kmpl which betters the standard petrol model's claimed figure of 19.34 kmpl.

Unlike other models where the CNG tank occupies the boot, the Ertiga CNG's tank is placed under the luggage compartment floor. It has a capacity of 10.86kg (60-litre water equivalent).

Both models are based on the VXI variant which means they are not completely barebones. It comes with power windows, multi-info driver's display (MID), manual AC, remote locking, 2-din audio system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX, steering mounted controls, projector headlamps as well as electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.

The also packs in safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high speed alert, driver and co-driver seat belt warning as well as ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the second row. The Tour M also has an electronic speed limit of 80kmph.

Apart from the introduction of CNG variants, the manufacturer had also announced that the Ertiga has crossed the 61,000 sales figure mark. This milestone was achieved in eight months since its launch in November, roughly equating to an average of 7625 units per month.

The Ertiga CNG variants are indeed a welcome addition due to stricter emission norms coming into play soon. It'll also fill the gap when Maruti pulls the plug on diesel models soon. The CNG variants could be an alternative for those who are looking at a fuel efficient option when diesel Marutis aren't on sale.

Also, Maruti will , a premium MPV based on the Ertiga. Slated to launch on August 21, it will be sold through the manufacturer's premium Nexa outlets.
