- The sedan was spotted with 'Hybrid Test Vehicle' stickers all around
- Headlamps and taillamps expected to get revisions
- Currently, the 530e plug-in hybrid comes with an all-electric range of 46km.
- Expected to make its global debut by 2020.
The facelift, and what's interesting is the 'Hybrid Test Vehicle' Sticker on the side and rear of the sedan. There is also an eDrive badge on the rear pillar, confirming the hybrid setup of the vehicle.
The sedan is fairly camouflaged but we can see the new headlamps and the new LED signature that looks in tune with the current G20. The rear tail lamps also sport a revised design and going by the camouflage, the rear bumper is also expected to feature some changes. The front grille and bumper has been covered up heavily, leaving not much space for speculation. Nevertheless, the iconic kidney grille's outline from the camouflage looks strange and only time will reveal if the current 5 Series' adequately sized grille will grow in size, like in other recent Bimmers, or not.
The hidden M badge on the fender and the blue brake callipers hint at this being an M Sport version with some additional kit. The dark coloured wheels and the blacked out window surround also gives out the same vibes.
Interiors are still in the dark but expect it to get the fully digital instrument cluster and latest iDrive system. Rumours are also suggesting that it might be the 545e, borrowing the powertrain from the 745e. The current 530e plug-in hybrid uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine along with an electric motor good for 46km of range. Combined, the electric motor backed by the 9.2kWh lithium-ion battery along with the petrol engine produces 248PS and 420Nm of torque, helping it achieve 0-100kmph in 6.2 seconds.
Chances of the plug-in hybrid version making to India are very faint but expect it to debut globally by 2020. The 5 Series in India is priced from Rs 58.70 lakh - 66.20 lakh., meanwhile, is priced at a stonking Rs. 1.44 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).
