Set for its global debut (and India launch) on August 20, the covers came off the all-new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios earlier this month. Now, with its launch just around the corner, dealer dispatches of the Grand i10 Nios have commenced. The Grand i10 Nios will slot in between the Grand i10 and i20 in Hyundai's line-up, and bookings have been open at dealerships and online for an amount of Rs 11,000, since August 7.

Fresh images of the Grand i10 Nios at a dealer stockyard give us a glimpse of its rear design. While there isn’t much to go by, it’s clear that the boot lid retains a clean, straightforward design, flanked by the simple-looking tail-lights, with the registration plate housing positioned in the rear bumper. At 3,805mm in length, 1,680mm in width and 1,520mm in height (and with a wheelbase of 2,450mm), the Nios is 40mm longer, 20mm wider and sports a 25mm longer wheelbase than the existing Grand i10.

In terms of design, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios seems to follow in the new Santro's footsteps, with shapely projector headlamps flanking the large ‘Cascading Grille'; an interesting touch is the presence of angular LED DRLs on the edges of the grille. The window line rises sharply towards the back, and the chrome door handles, G-i10 engraving in the C-pillar, shark-fin antenna and 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels add some flavour to the Nios' appearance.

Sporting an ivory-grey colour scheme, the Grand i10 Nios’ redesigned dashboard features an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The touchscreen unit itself is flanked by buttons and dials, the dash and doorpads feature a dimpled, textured finish and the front seats have fixed headrests. Some of the interior bits seem to be borrowed from the Venue – namely the new steering wheel, AC vents and even the infotainment system, which is likely to come with Hyundai’s Blue Link connectivity suite.

The Nios will come with BS6-compliant versions of the existing Grand i10’s 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines, making it the first Hyundai model in the country to meet the upcoming emission standards. At 83hp and 114Nm, the Nios’ petrol engine has an output similar to that of the existing Grand i10, much like the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine, which puts out an identical 75hp and 190Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, but an AMT will also be on offer with both engine options.

With BS6-compliant engines and a longer list of features, expect Hyundai Grand i10 Nios prices to be slightly higher than those of the existing Grand i10. However, to make space for the new arrival, Hyundai will discontinue the diesel version of the current Grand i10, and will only sell it in three variants, all equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
