Celebrating cumulative sales of 2.9 million units of the diesel Swift, Dzire, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will offer the cars with a 5-year/1,00,000km warranty as standard. The petrol variants of the Swift and Dzire continue to be offered with a 2-year/40,000km standard warranty, extendable to 5-year/1,00,000km for an additional cost.
Commenting on the occasion, Shashank Srivastava, executive director (marketing & sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “as a small gesture of our gratitude to the admirers and prospective buyers, we are offering a free 5-year/1,00,000km warranty on the entire diesel line-up of these models to ensure a worry free ownership experience.”
All models mentioned feature the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine that develops 75hp/190Nm in the Swift and Dzire, and 90hp/200Nm in the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross.
Maruti has said that the new warranty plan will cover a host of components and their replacement including the high-pressure pump, compressor, Electronic Control Module (ECM), turbocharger assembly, critical engine and transmission parts, among others. The steering assembly and suspension struts are also covered as part of the plan.
The 1.3-litre diesel has long been the mainstay of Maruti’s diesel line-up, though the unit is set to meet its end with the introduction of the BS6 emission norms in April 2020. The move to offer extended warranty as standard on its 1.3 diesel cars could be Maruti’s attempt to boost sales by offering a more hassle-free ownership experience.
Maruti also offers a larger in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine that it debuted in the Ciaz earlier in the year, followed by an introduction under the hood of the Ertiga.
