Maruti Suzuki has just launched the BS6-compliant version of the Celerio, with prices ranging from Rs 4.41 lakh for the base LXi variant going up to Rs 5.67 lakh for the ZXi (O) AMT. This translates to a premium of around Rs 15,000 to Rs 24,000 over the BS4-compliant models. The carmaker has almost upgraded its entire range of vehicles to comply with the upcoming emissions norms – which will come into effect on April 1, 2020 – barring the Celerio X, Ignis and Alto K10.

Mechanically, the Celerio comes fitted with the same 998cc, three-cylinder petrol engine, though it has been updated to meet the more stringent emission norms. The unit continues to produce 68hp and 90Nm of torque, though as seen with other BS6-spec models, the engine is expected to be marginally less fuel efficient. The engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox.

Besides the above mentioned changes, the Celerio remains unchanged in terms of styling and equipment. There are no changes on the safety front either, as the Celerio was updated last year (in order to comply with the  new safety norms) and received ABS with EBD, a speed alert system, and rear parking sensors as standard.

In terms of competition, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio rivals the Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Datsun Go and soon to be launched Tata Tiago facelift
