Skoda India TDI and Vento TSI, the BS6-compliant model will be offered with a torque converter automatic as confirmed by Skoda Auto India's Director of Sales and Marketing, Zac Hollis. The BS6-compliant Rapid is all set to hit showrooms in April 2020.
The Rapid BS6 will come with a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI engine developing 115PS of power and 200Nm of torque. This engine will be paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic unlike the existing Vento TSI/Rapid TDI, which is offered with a quick-shifting DSG. The same has also been confirmed by Mr Hollis who tweeted "Yes the new Rapid is not DSG". It's also safe to assume the upcoming BS6-compliant Vento and Polo GT TSI will be offered with the same torque converter unit. will also offer the Rapid TSI with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Meanwhile, the Rapid's existing 1.5-litre TDI and 1.6-litre MPI engine options won't be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms and will eventually face the axe. The diesel motor develops 110PS and 250Nm while the petrol motor puts out 105PS and 150Nm.
Other updates in the 2020 Rapid include larger 17-inch alloy wheels in the Monte Carlo version and a stealthy matte paint option.
The 2020 Skoda Rapid is expected to be priced above the existing model, which starts from Rs 8.82 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City 2020, and the upcoming.
