  • The Xtreme 160R gets fully digital instrumentation and LED lighting.
  • It is powered by a fuel-injected 160cc motor.
  • Expected to be launched next month in two variants.

Hero MotoCorp seems to have finally gotten serious about its 150cc range with this, the new Xtreme 160R. Since it discontinued the Xtreme Sports earlier this year, the company hasn’t had any offering in this displacement range, but it is now back with a bang. The Xtreme packs in some class-leading features, including LED lighting, fully digital instrumentation, and a side-stand cut-off.

It also looks quite intentful and aggressive, with the LED headlight up front echoing design cues from the Dominar and the Apache 160 4V, which gives the bike a mean fascia. A large tank extension flows neatly backwards into the underseat area, resulting in some considerable plastic real estate. The beefy exhaust end-can completes the overall macho look, and the whole motorcycle seems quite well-finished. The footpeg brackets, switchgear quality, and panel gaps all appear to be top-notch. The seat is a single-piece unit but features a prominent step and the tail section rises sharply, giving the bike a mild tipped-forward stance.

Propulsion comes from a BS6-compliant 160cc air-cooled, fuel-injected motor putting out 15.21PS and 14Nm, making it more powerful and torquier than both the Pulsar 150 and the Apache 160 2V in their BS6 forms. The bike is held together by a tubular steel, single-downtube frame suspended on a conventional telescopic fork and 7-step preload-adjustable monoshock.

There are two variants on offer: single disc and double disc. Fairly self-explanatory. This being a 160cc motorcycle, ABS is mandatory and a single-channel system is on offer. At the moment, the Xtreme 160R has only been unveiled, with a possible launch next month. Expect the two variants to occupy a price space between Rs 90,000 to 1 lakh, which would put the Xtreme on par with its competition.
