Honda Shine BS6 vs SP 125 Which One To Buy

 

After launching the SP 125 in November last year, Honda has now introduced its second BS6-compliant motorcycle - the Shine BS6. Both motorcycles get a 125cc motor but have a different focus and offer a different ride experience. So which one should you put your hard-earned money on? Here are some facts to help you decide.

Dimensions:

The SP 125 has a sporty looking bodywork while the Shine BS6 has a more conservative yet premium commuter-ish design. Interestingly, the Shine BS6 is both longer and taller than the SP 125 while the latter is wider. The Shine BS6 also offers a slightly taller ground clearance and is 3kg lighter than the SP 125. Both offer near identical seat height but the Shine SP has a 55mm longer seat. However, the sportier SP 125 has a larger fuel tank.

Engine:

Both motorcycles use the new 125cc engine platform but have a different state of tune. While the SP 125 is tuned for more power, the Shine BS6 offers better torque. So while the SP 125’s motor feels lively, the Shine BS6 should provide better bottom end performance. Both motorcycles get a 5-speed gearbox. 

 

Features:

Compared to the Shine BS6, the SP 125 comes feature-packed. It gets an LED headlamp and a fully digital instrument console which includes a gear position indicator and clock. The SP 125 also gets stylish split alloy wheels. An update on the Shine BS6 is the new DC powered halogen headlamp which should provide a brighter beam spread. It still gets an analogue instrument console but with refreshed graphics. Both motorcycles get an ACG starter which offers silent start operations. 

 

Underpinnings: 

Both motorcycles have a similar suspension setup consisting of a telescopic fork and dual 5-step adjustable shock absorber. Even the tyre sizes are the same 80/100-18 for both as is the braking setup. Both get a 240mm disc/130mm drum up front and a 130mm drum at the back with CBS as standard. 

 

Pricing:

Both motorcycles are available in two variants: drum and disc. The price difference between the two motorcycles is between Rs 4,500 and Rs 5,000. For the extra premium over the Shine BS6, the SP 125 offers a sportier bodywork, better features and a larger fuel tank. It is aimed towards customers looking for a sporty bike with trusty underpinnings and motor. A sporty replacement to the BS4 Shine SP. On the other hand, the Shine BS6 stays true to its roots with its conservative styling but is more polished, more comfortable and feels more premium. So if you want sporty, the SP 125 is the one to go for. For a premium commuter experience, go for the Shine BS6.
