- The new 1084cc parallel-twin motor is BS6 compliant and makes more power than before.
- Like before, we get the DCT auto gearbox variant.
- It is 6kg lighter than its predecessor.
- For 2020, the Africa Twin gets a host of goodies like TFT colour display, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay.
The 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin BS6 has been launched in In India. Overseas, the Africa Twin comes in two versions: standard and Adventure Sports both of which have been launched here. The standard Africa Twin prices start at Rs 15.35 lakh (manual variant), a substantial Rs 1.85 lakh over the CRF1000L Africa Twin DCT variant. For that extra premium, the new Africa Twin gets a new, larger motor, new frame, and a host of electronic updates.
The biggest change is the new 1084cc motor whose capacity has increased from 998cc thanks to an increase in stroke from 75.1mm to 81.5mm. It now delivers 102PS and 105Nm, a hike of 7PS and 7Nm. The motor gets new cylinder heads, new valve timing, updated ECU, and a catalytic converter to help it clear Euro 5/BS6 emission norms. While the previous versions of the Africa Twin's sold in India came with a DCT gearbox, the 2020 version will be available with the six-speed manual and DCT auto gearbox options.

Along with the new motor comes 6-axis IMU-based rider aids. The 2020 Africa Twin gets Honda Selectable Torque Control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, and rear lift control. The cruise control feature has been carried over. All these rider aids can be accessed via a new 6.5-inch TFT colour display, which comes with Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay.
The chassis is all-new as well. It features a bolt-on subframe instead of the previous welded setup for better serviceability and affordability in case you drop it. It also weighs 6kg less than its predecessor. The seat height has gone up from the previous 820mm-840mm setup to 850mm-870mm. However, the seat is 140mm narrower than before. The standard model continues to use the previous iteration’s Showa 45mm USD fully-adjustable fork and preload-and rebound-adjustable monoshock as well as 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels with tube-type tyres. Spoked rims for tubeless tyres are available as an option.
Honda has big plans for its large-capacity products in India. They will be adding more premium Honda BigWing dealerships here by the end of 2020 as well as launch the Forza 300 premium scooter in India. The 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin competes with the new Triumph Tiger 900, Ducati Multistrada 950, and the BMW F 850 GS.
