New spy shots have revealed Gran Coupe four-door sedan and the M8 sports coupe in India. The carmaker had previously listed the 8 Series Gran Coupe on its India website, but the M8 is a surprise. The four-door 8 Series is likely to be priced upwards of Rs 85 lakh while the M8 could cost more than Rs 2 crore.
The 8 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door luxury sport sedan. It is powered by two 3.0-litre inline-six engines - a petrol and a diesel. The former produces 340PS of power and 500Nm of torque and the diesel makes 320PS and 680Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. All-wheel-drive xDrive variants, as well as an M850i model, are on offer in other markets, but the India-spec Gran Coupe is likely to be rear-drive only.
While the 8 Series Gran Coupe may not be a traditional coupe, the M8 is. It has two doors and a sleek roofline. Under its bonnet lies a 600PS/750Nm M TwinPower V8 petrol engine paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. An M8 Competition variant is also on sale in other countries, as is an all-wheel-drive xDrive variant.
BMW launched the M8 and 8 Series Gran Coupe in Europe and North America in 2019. The Gran Coupe competes with the Mercedes CLS and the Porsche Panamera. If you're looking for a grand tourer, the M8 offers a sleeker and sportier alternative to the Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe while being much less expensive than the Bentley Continental GT and the Aston Martin DB11.
