EXCLUSIVE!
Mahindra has announced pricing for the heavily updated Bolero. The BS6-compliant Bolero facelift gets an aggressive pricing that starts at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is identical to the BS4 variant price. The carmaker, however, is expected to hike the price by around Rs 70,000 in the coming months.
The Bolero facelift also gets updated variant nomenclature and is now sold in three variants – the lower-spec B4, the mid-spec B6, and the top-spec B6(O). Prices for the mid-spec Bolero B6 is priced at Rs 8.64 lakh, while the top-spec B6 (O) costs Rs 8.99lakh.
Mahindra dealerships started getting stock of the BS6 Bolero around two weeks ago, which is when we revealed the first images of the vehicle. The upgrades for the 2020 Bolero BS6 include fresh front styling including a new bumper, grille, and headlamps. While the changes to the Bolero’s exterior might look cosmetic, what’s important is that Mahindra’s oldest model in India now complies with the new crash-test norms that were introduced late last year. Additionally, the BS6 Bolero also complies with upcoming pedestrian safety norms that’ll be implemented in October. The updated Bolero becomes the first vehicle sold in India with metal bumpers to clear the upcoming pedestrian norms. While most of the features on the new Bolero remain the same, we can confirm that higher variants now come with static bending headlamps as standard.
Under the hood, the BS6-compliant Bolero Power Plus gets a 1.5-litre, three- cylinder diesel mHawk75 engine that delivers 75hp, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is no four-wheel-drive variant on offer.
The Bolero has been a consistent strong seller for the Mahindra brand. Between April 2019 and January 2020, the company sold a total of 52,828 units of the car, which is a monthly average of 5,289 units. The Mahindra Bolero was introduced in the Indian market in 2000, and with the current update, the model is not expected to see a complete generation change anytime soon.
While most Mahindra dealers have received stocks of the refreshed Bolero, it remains to be seen when deliveries will begin, as the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in delays in processing finance, insurance, and even vehicle registration as most employees of private and government institutions are either working from home or are available at limited capacity.
The company will be keeping promotions for the updated Bolero to minimal currently due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and will scale up marketing activities once the issue subsides.
The BS6 upgrade on the Bolero is one of multiple model updates Mahindra has lined up for the Indian market. In the coming weeks, the company will announce pricing for thecurrent-gen XUV500 BS6 and the Scorpio BS6. The next big launch for Mahindra will be the second-gen Thar.
