  • The Maserati MC20 is expected to debut in May 2020
  • The powertrain in question will most likely be a turbocharged V6.
  • Production is expected to commence this year.

Wait a minute, we thought Maserati gave up on IC engines with theTurns out, it didn't, and something very interesting by the name of MC20 is scheduled for a debut in May 2020. Although the Italians have been teasing the MC20 for some time now, the latest teaser is what caught our attention. Maserati is being audacious with the new sportscar and the latest teaser is strictly not family-friendly.

Maserati shared a couple of teasers on Instagram with the caption "Who said it couldn't be done." Now, we have to give to Masearti for clicking one of the best blurred pictures on the internet. So good that we sadly can't make out much from them. However, the highlight of the teaser is not the image or the caption, but the background.

Yes, you see the images were shot right in front of L.O.V.E, a middle-finger statue in the heart of Milan, Italy. It is believed that the statue is a message to the bankers in Italy referring to the economic crisis that affected Italy from 2008. Some say it is also a symbol of Italian audacity in contemporary art. We feel Maserati is on to something big here with the bold teasers and the caption. The sports car in question resembled the brilliant Alfa Romeo 4C in its early teasers. But, as it turns out, this Maserati has got nothing to do with the Alfa.

Even though details are scarce, it is safe to expect a carbon fibre tub and a mid-mounted turbocharged V6 with outputs north of 600PS That puts the MC20 in the ring with established players from towns of Maranello, Sant'Agata Bolognese and even Woking with the 600LT. There are also various rumours stating Ferrari is behind the development of the powertrain (rumour mills also suggest a hybrid powertrain). As we all know, Ferrari and internal combustion engines are a match made in heaven, especially if it's got a flat-plane crank. There's too much mystery surrounding the MC20, but being a Maserati, we can vouch that it will be one pretty sportscar/supercar.

The MC in Maserati language stands for Maserati Corsa from the radical MC12 that was based on the Enzo. Built by the Italians to compete in the FIA GT championship, the MC12 is revered around the world even more than the Ferrari Enzo. MC20's production is slated to begin this year at Modena with sales set to commence in 2021.
