Watch Video Review

Yamaha has launched the BS6-compliant MT-15 in India at Rs 1,38,900 (ex-showroom), making it Rs 2,900 more expensive than before. But are there any other changes apart from the updated engine and the new Ice Fluo Vermillion paint scheme? Has it gained some weight and lost a bit of power like other BS6 bikes? Let’s find out.

Power difference:

The 155cc motor on the MT-15 has been updated to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. It produces 18.5PS at 10,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 8500rpm, which is 0.8PS and 0.8Nm less than the BS4 model. We know it’s quite a minor difference, but we will reserve our judgement until we do a proper road test of the bike to see if the performance has been affected or not.

Features:

While keeping the price increment to a minimum, Yamaha has managed to throw in some extra features to further differentiate the two versions. The BS6 version comes with a radial rear tyre, side-stand engine cut-off feature and a new LED tail light. Considering that the MT-15 was launched last year, we think this is a pretty healthy feature list.

Design:

Apart from a new paint option, both the BS6 and BS4 MT-15 look exactly the same. You also get those red wheels that debuted last year! And the new Ice Fluo Vermillion paint scheme costs just Rs 500 more than the base BS6 version.

Underpinnings:

The Frame, brakes as well as the suspension setup on both versions remain the same. So expect both versions to behave exactly the same in the city or out on the highway. We haven’t ridden the BS6 MT-15 yet, but we have ridden the BS4 version and if you want to know how it fares in the real world, here’s our road test review.
