Aprilia has issued a recall for 3,287 motorcycles in the USA. The models included in this recall are the Tuono 1100 RR and RF, RSV4 1000 RF and the RSV4 1000 RR. The bikes built between 2017-2020 have an issue with the front brake pads.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Brembo brake pads on these motorcycles have a high content of nickel and that increases their tendency of absorbing large amounts of water and salt. This in turn could accelerate the corrosion process and lead to the pads falling off the back plate, without warning. This will lead to a sudden brake failure as there's no brake pad and also cause brake disc damage due to contact between the back plate and the disc.

Owners of the affected models will be contacted by the Italian brand and starting May 22, 2020, will be invited to visit their licensed Aprilia dealer to have the front brake pads replaced with compliant components, free of charge.

At present, Aprilia hasn't revealed if the bikes sold in India during this period are also affected by this recall. However, it's not only Aprilia that's affected by this issue, Triumph also recalled it's Street Triple RS, Speed Triple RS and the Tiger 1200 for the same problem in the USA.
