Storm Zig launch

Aprilia’s entry-level scooter, the BS6 Storm 125, now comes with a front disc brake variant priced at Rs 91,321 (ex-showroom Pune). Those wanting to buy the scooter can do so by heading to Aprilia’s website and paying a token amount of Rs 1,000. Customers who choose to buy the Storm 125 through the online route can avail benefits worth Rs 2,000 on any Vespa or Aprilia scooters. Piaggio showcased its 2020 lineup of Aprilia and Vespa scooter at the Auto Expo earlier this year. Unfortunately, all launches had to be delayed for a couple of months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apart from the front disc brake, the Storm 125 disc brake variant also gets a semi-digital instrument console. But that’s all there is to the Storm 125, which is a bit disappointing considering it commands a premium of almost Rs 23,000 over the now discontinued BS4 drum brake variant.

The Storm 125 draws power from a BS6-compliant 125cc, fuel-injected motor that puts out 9.5PS of power and 9.9Nm of peak torque. The biggest differentiation between the Storm and the standard SR 125 are the colour options and tyres. The Storm 125, for instance, comes in a red and yellow livery with chunky cross pattern tyres just in case you decide to have a bit of fun in the dirt. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork and monoshock. Its braking setup comprises a 220mm disc mated to a two-pot caliper and a rear drum brake. CBS (combined Braking System) is offered as standard.

While the Storm doesn’t have any direct rival, it does compete against the BS6 TVS NTorq 125 in terms of performance.
