After almost a decade-long stint, the first generation Rolls-Royce Ghost will soon make way for a brand new sedan. Rolls-Royce has announced the development of the new Ghost and the BMW-owned automaker has also revealed the first sketches of the car that reveal a minimalistic design language at its core.
In an open letter, CEO Torsten Manduuml;ller-andOuml;tvandouml;s harped about minimalism and simplicity. According to findings by Rolls-Royce, customers have brought up the importance of a more minimalistic design that evokes class in place of the more flamboyant riches-on-wheels appearance.
The official sketch might look like a hurried scribble of three lines but reveals quite a bit about its design. Expect the new Ghost to be an evolution of the existing silhouette with a coupe-like profile and lithe design updates.
Roll-Royce's plans for a post-Covid world are already underway as the new Ghost is set to be redefined inside-out. The second-gen Ghost has been under development since the past five years but the global pandemic has thrown a spanner in the works. Using the research from the Luxury Intelligence Unit and designers at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex, a new design was put in place, one that has almost reached completion. It will be officially unveiled in Autumn 2020.
It is too early to forecast but this new-gen Roller might share its platform with the BMW 7 Series. The engine is likely to be the same 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12. The first-generation Ghost has been available on sale for more than a decade now.It rivals the likes of the Bentley Flying Spur and the Mercedes-Maybach S600.
