- Royal Enfield ranked ninth in the total sales charts.
- The Interceptor 650 outsold the likes of the BMW R 1250 GS, Triumph Tiger 900 and Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX.
- Hopefully, the Meteor 350 and the other new J-platform motorcycles can further build on the success of the 650 Twins.
Royal Enfield has tasted much success in our country. The Classic 350 has been the company’s mainstay and the new 650 twins have been a runaway success in the large capacity segment. And not only has it done great in the local market but also in the United Kingdom where the Interceptor 650 outsold all motorcycles in the month of June.
Yeah, the 650 twins were meant to be the first proper Royal Enfield’s for international markets. The Classic, Bullet and Himalayan might have been around on the global scene way before the Interceptor and the Continental GT 350 arrived. However, the latter two provide the perfect blend of modern technology and performance, and old school charm. All of it in a package that costs nearly half as much as the Triumph Street Twin (in the UK).
The Interceptor 650 was the highest selling naked in the UK and also the highest selling motorcycle north of 126 cee cees. The only two-wheeler that had better sales figures than the Interceptor 650 was the Honda PCX 125 scooter. If you look at the actual number of units sold, the paltry 196 units may not account for much in terms of revenue for the brand, especially since Royal Enfield sells nearly five times as many Interceptors in India. But it is the statement that counts that Royal Enfield is once again making an impact on the global scene, just like it did in its heyday.
