Carlin's Jehan Daruvala couldn't capitalize on his top 10 grid slot as the Indian driver finished a lowly 19th in the feature race of round 7 of the FIA Formula 2 World Championship at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda inherited the race win due to a five second penalty for Nikita Mazepin.
Starting, Daruvala had a slow launch off the line, had contact during the opening lap resulting in front wing damage and an unscheduled pitstop at the end of the first lap, dropping him down to the tail end of the field. With a massive gap to the cars ahead and no safety cars to help limit the time loss, the Indian driver's race was essentially sealed from that point on, crossing the line in 19th position.
As things stand, Daruvala will start at the same grid slot for tomorrow's 126km (18 laps) or 45-minute sprint race, with Tsunoda lining up 8th due to the top eight finishers from the feature race lining up in a reversed grid order. The Indian driver will hope to have a cleaner second half of the race weekend with the track full of overtaking opportunities.
The final race of the weekend will commence on Sunday at 2:40pm (IST) and will be streamed live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
