It will rival the new-gen Force Gurkha, which is also set to launch in the coming months.
Not long ago, an SUV with off-roading capabilities like the Thar came completely bare to the bones. Forget a touchscreen infotainment system, there was just enough to survive in the cabin of the car. Things have changed now, with modern day technology making it easier for these gadgets to survive the wild elements.
The second-gen Thar gets a proper touchscreen infotainment system for the first time. To make things more interesting, it's got fun stuff on it for the off-roader in you. It features three modes under the Adventure Statistics menu: On Road, Off Road, and Custom.
Beginning with the On Road sub-menu, it has four digital readout dials for power, G-force, torque, and a compass. In between these four dials is the speed readout. The sub-menu for Off Road shows information that's more relevant when your wheels hit the dirt. It shows tilt, pitch, steering angle, steering direction, and a temperature gauge. The Custom setup allows you to arrange the layout according to your preferences. For the average joe, this information is useless, but when you're on a steep climb or have one wheel on the rock with the other on mud, this is exactly the kind of stuff you need to know.
Despite a new platform, and an increased focus on practicality, the new Thar has refused to let go of its off-roading capabilities. With these additional stats, it ensures that the Thar will still be used for what it was created to do.
Revealed on Independence Day, the 2020 Thar is set to launch on October 2. It is expected to be priced over Rs 9.5 lakh. It will rival the new-gen, which will also go on sale around the festive season.
