MG Motor India has launched its own brand of a used car retail network in the country. Dubbed ‘MG Reassure’, the dealership chain has been set up to cater to the needs of customers looking to sell their MG vehicles as well as prospective owners hoping to purchase certified, pre-owned cars from the brand.

  • Used car buyers will be provided a 3 year/unlimited km warranty with the purchase of a pre-owned MG model from authorised outlets. 

Why has MG started its Reassure business?

With just over a year in existence in the Indian market, it may be early days still for there to exist a sizeable number of old MG sellers. The company has nonetheless decided to set up its own dedicated pre-owned network in a bid to provide confidence to buyers of its new cars. In addition, the early start will also help MG set up its systems and processes and have them refined and ready as its market grows.   

MG Reassure: What’s in it for the seller?

MG Reassure essentially affords people the opportunity to sell their MG vehicles to company authorised outlets, and potentially receive a fair price offer. The brand’s chief commercial officer, Gaurav Gupta, claims that the company’s latest endeavour will provide the “best resale value of MG cars to customers across India”.

Notably, as part of its MG Shield service and warranty programme, the car major already has a buyback plan in place. The scheme promises new vehicle owners an assured buyback of their SUVs after 3 years of ownership, at 60 percent of the original ex-showroom price for the MG Hector and Hector Plus, and at 50 percent of the ex-showroom value for the MG ZS EV. The programme, however, requires owners to opt-in at the time of their new vehicle purchase for a stipulated fee.

MG Reassure: What’s in it for the buyer?

Buyers purchasing pre-owned MG models from the brand’s Reassure network will have a selection of certified and refurbished vehicles to choose from. The automaker says that the vehicles will be assessed on 160-plus quality parameters and will undergo repairs before resale. These vehicles will be covered with a 3 year/unlimited km warranty, in addition to 3 years of roadside assistance and 3 free services.

What else does MG have in store?

In its year of operations in the country, MG has created a portfolio consisting the Hector midsize SUV, the Hector Plus six-seater derivative, and the battery electric ZS EV. The automaker will soon be expanding its range with the launch of the MG Gloster full-size SUV around Diwali. Recent teasers and sightings of the premium SUV have revealed that the model will come with advanced driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency breaking, in addition to on-demand four-wheel drive.
